One person is dead and two are seriously injured following a crash on U.S. 40 on the east side of Seelyville.
Here’s what officials are telling us: a stolen mini-van out of Clark County, Illinois, and sports car, a red Mustang, collided. One male, the driver of the mini-van, identified as 44-year-old John Fasig of Martinsville, IL was apprehended and taken to Union. He was later airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital with neck and spine injuries and is currently under guard. Within half an hour of the male subject fleeing, conservation officers caught him.
A blood test shows John Fasig tested positive for Amphetamines and marijuana. He is preliminarily charged with leaving the scene of a fatality crash, OWI resulting in death, Leaving the scene of a Serious Bodily Injury crash, OWI resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, OWI endangerment and Motor Vehicle Theft.
Officials were looking for a female passenger of the mini-van who fled the scene. She may have got a ride in the area. By 6:45p.m., officials had followed up on tips and found the female, now identified as 48-year-old Dawn LaFountain. She is also preliminarily charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
The driver of the sports car, identified as 25-year-old Yesli Perez-Lopez, with an unknown residency, was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital. As noted above, a female passenger, identified as 20-year-old Fernanda Martinez, of Brazil, IN was taken to Union Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The identities of those in the sports car were not immediately released because of conflicted identifications on them. “‘We cannot release the names of the occupants in the red mustang because of conflicting identification found on both the driver and passenger,” said Sheriff Greg Ewing.
Upon preliminary investigation, officials believe the van crossed the center-line for an unknown reason, causing the collision.
Sheriff Ewing says more charges are likely.
